Did you know in China, lychees are called"The Empress’s Smile"? ?
This
name originates from the Tang Dynasty, when Emperor Xuanzong, deeply in
love with his most cherished concubine, Yang Guifei, sought to satisfy
her great fondness for lychees. To fulfill her wish, he had fresh
lychees sent from Lingnan to Chang’an, a distance of 1500-2000 km—about
the same as traveling from Los Angeles to Chicago. The journey took 10
days, during which 12 runners were rotated, and 3 horses perished. When
Yang Guifei finally tasted the fruit, her radiant smile made it
legendary, and the lychees became known as “The Empress’s Smile.”
Today, thanks to advancements in IQF (Individually Quick Frozen) technology, we can now bring the sweet taste of Chinese lychees to people all around the world, anytime and anywhere.
